Los determinantes en inglés: más simples de lo que crees, con tres trampas

Los determinantes son las palabras que van antes del sustantivo — artículos, posesivos, demostrativos, cuantificadores. En inglés son mucho más simples que en español porque no existe concordancia de género ni número. Pero hay tres trampas específicas que causan casi todos los errores: la regla a/an, el artículo cero, y la pareja some/any.
MÁS SIMPLE QUE EN ESPAÑOL ✓
Sin género. El/la/los/las → solo the. Este/esta/estos/estas → solo this/these.
Sin concordancia. my song · my songs — siempre igual.
Menos formas. Nuestro/nuestra/nuestros/nuestras → solo our.
LAS TRES TRAMPAS ⚠
a → an por SONIDO. a university · an hour (h muda).
Artículo cero. «Me gusta la música» → «I like ∅ music».
some vs any. Afirmativo vs negativo/pregunta.

05another vs. other: another = uno más (singular). Other = los demás (plural).►

06such va ANTES del artículo: such a voice (NO: a such voice). Expresa intensidad o sorpresa.►

07former / latter: solo para listas de DOS elementos. Former = el primero. Latter = el segundo.►
el primero→Salsa and merengue — the former is Cuban.
el segundo→The latter is Dominican.
08the very: intensificador de identidad. The very same = el mismísimo. The very first = el primísimo.►

09half: half the time / half of the time — ambas son correctas. La L es MUDA: hæf.►
sin of→She spent half the set singing.
con of→Half of the songs were in English.
10my own: enfatiza autoría o independencia. My own song = mi propia canción.►

independencia→She made it on her own.
11certain / particular: van antes del artículo indefinido. Denotan algo específico pero no nombrado.►
cierto→There is a certain magic in her voice.
específico→A particular song always moves me.
12only como determinante = único. Posición importa: The only song ≠ Only the song (adverbio).►
